Beginning of October Update

Some upcoming important dates:
Thursday, October 5:  Picture day.  Your fourth grader brought home an order form last week, and you can also order online.  Additional order forms are also available in the office.

Friday, October 13: No school. Statewide inservice day.

Thursday, October 19: Curriculum night, 5:45 to 7:15 p.m.  Come learn about what we are working on this year, and how you can support your fourth grader on their way to fifth grade!

Friday, October 20:   Firwood Jog a Thon!  More information will be coming home soon.  Thank you for helping your child support Firwood!

Thursday, October 26:  Family Reading Night!  Come celebrate books with us!  6:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Progress Portfolios will be coming home the second week of October.  This is a major communication tool I use to share your fourth grader's progress throughout the year.  Instead of simply seeing scores on ParentVue, you can see the tests and other documents and review them with your child.  Keeping them in one portfolio ensures that we can see growth all year, and that these documents are not lost in the shuffle of homework folders.  Thank you for taking the time to review this with your fourth grader and returning it in a timely manner so that it may be added to!

Conference sign ups are also coming soon.  Please anticipate an email with a link to a Signup Genius.  If none of the times in November works for your family, please let me know of some times that DO work for you, and we will make it happen!

Reading
We will be wrapping up our first unit on traditions and heritage, and moving on to animals and how they survive.

Math
We are partway through chapter two: growing our addition and subtraction skills.

Writing
Fourth graders have been enjoying working on personal narratives.  These will soon be published and shared.  We will then move on to some informative writing centered around Oregon's Native Americans.

Here's some pictures of some rounding fun!

Thank you for making it this far!  Please tell your fourth grader that the password is "Jack-o-lantern." If they tell it to me at an appropriate time, they will earn a Marvelous Mustang.
