Public Speaking: Sharing Changes in Nature Research Projects

We made it through our first weeks back from spring break!  The end is in sight, and we have so much to do in the next bit of time (fewer than 50 days left!).  Second graders are rallying and working hard every minute of the school day.

Second graders performed research about a topic they chose that had to do with something about changes in nature, or cycles in nature.  We had the rock cycle; life cycles of horses, dogs, and dragonflies; how stars are made; how volcanoes form; how floods happen; and more.  Students found facts in books and from internet sources.  They practiced writing different kinds of sentences to share their facts: interrogative "Did you know...?" declarative "The such-and-such is the biggest..." and exclamatory "It's so cool that...!"  They created a diagram (teaching picture, usually with labels) to explain their topic, as well as a unique font for their title and a zentangle for some art.  It was a laborious project, but when they shared their final products round-robin style, they were curious, respectful, and well spoken.  Here are some pictures of their sharing, and projects will come home in the near future.
